Ultimate Lake Day

We all like to spend the day on the lake to de-stress, enjoy the water, and create lifelong memories with family and friends. Whether it’s a leisurely afternoon or an action-packed day, having the best lake day can require some prep. From choosing the perfect spot to bringing the essential gear, this is how to use your time best on the water.

1. Choose the best lake spot

Not all lakes are created equal, so picking the right one will be the difference-maker in making the visit successful. Some are ideal to use for relaxation and fishing, but other lakes are ideal to use for watersports and social gatherings.

If you are trailering your boat to a body of water you are unfamiliar with, be sure to check out the availability of facilities like boat ramps and marinas, in case you need food or fuel throughout the day.

2. Planning Ahead

If you are using your own vessel, ensure that it has been properly inspected before launching. Check the fuel level, battery charge and the engine health. Also, be sure you have all the proper safety gear on board for use in an emergency, including enough life vests for everyone onboard.

3. Pack the Essentials

A well-prepared lake day offers relaxation, fun, and ease of mind. Some important items to bring along are:

  • Safety gear – life jackets for every passenger onboard, a first aid kit, sunscreen, and extra towels.
  • Drinks and food – Bring lots of water and snacks. Prepare sandwiches, fruit, and easily consumable foods to save time. If you don’t want to prepare lunch, check the area for local marinas that serve food.
  • Water accessories and gear – tubes, surfboards, wakeboards, and inflatables add to the fun during the day.

4. Organize Activities for All

One of the best things about a lake day is the variety of activities. Consider your group’s interests and plan accordingly:

  • For the thrill-seekers – Wakeboarding, surfing, skiing and tubing where permitted are the fun activities.
  • For relaxation – Find a cover and anchor to allow for time to relax while lounging on the boat or swimming in the water.

5. Respect Nature and Follow Lake Regulations

A great lake day is one that leaves the natural landscape the way that you found it. Just observe the following simple guidelines to be a thoughtful guest:

Pick up all litter and dispose of it properly. Abide by boating and swimming regulations like no-wake zones and guidelines regarding safety. Be courteous to other lake users by keeping the volume low enough that it does not intrude upon other users of the lake.
