Why Fall is the Best Time to Buy
Learn why savvy buyers know that fall is often the sweet spot to get the best deal.
When most people think about buying a boat, spring or early summer come to mind. But savvy boat buyers know that fall is often the sweet spot to get the best deal and the best trade-in value. At Current Watersports, with locations serving the Cincinnati, Louisville, and Knoxville areas, we often encourage buyers to think ahead to summer – and fall gives you a great head start. Here’s why:
1. Manufacturer Incentives Peak in the Fall
Boat manufacturers build boats year-round. While demand peaks in the summer it would be impossible for manufacturers to mass produce boats only during that time to meet the yearly demand. They have to level production throughout the year and employ staff to hand build them all year long. As a result, manufacturers offer their largest discounts in the fall to drive sales when demand is at its lowest.
At Current Watersports, we see some of the largest discounts of the year during fall clearance events.
As new model years arrive, dealers must clear out existing stock, which means deeper cuts on 2024/2025 models.
2. Maximize Your Trade-In & Tax Benefits
Waiting until spring to trade in your boat can cost you – literally.
If you choose to wait until spring to trade in your current boat, it will be one model year older – decreasing its value.
There’s even more savings to be had when you consider that we will cover the fall service and winter storage costs. Pair this with the trade-in sales tax credit and you’ll save thousands on taxes toward your new boat. These savings can really add up
In short: trade before your boat “ages” another year.
3. Lock in Your Custom Build Early
If you want to design your boat – color, options, features – the earlier you order, the better.
By buying in fall, you secure your slot for spring delivery before production backlogs set in and you potentially miss some summer days while your new boat is being built.
Waiting until spring or summer often means you’re limited to inventory on hand (with fewer choices) or facing long lead times.
For many boat buyers, customization matters, and they want to build a boat specifically fit to their family’s preferences. Ordering earlier guarantees you don’t miss any time on the water when warm weather hits in the spring.
